2 & 3 year old curriculum
We follow the Sure Start Birth to Three Matters Framework - a framework to support children in their earliest years.
The Framework takes as its focus "the child " and steers away from subjects, specific areas of experience and distinct curriculum headings. It identifies four aspects, which celebrate the skill and competence of babies and young children and highlights the interrelationship between growth, learning, development and the environment in which they are cared for and educated.
The Framework's four aspects are:
- A Strong Child -
- Me, Myself and I
- Being Acknowledged and Affirmed
- Developing Self-Assurance
- A Sense of Belonging
- A Skilful Communicator -
- Being Together
- Finding a Voice
- Listening and Responding
- Making Meaning
- A Competent Learner -
- Making Connections
- Being Imaginative
- Being Creative
- Representing
- A Healthy Child -
- Emotional Well-being
- Growing and Developing
- Keeping Safe
- Healthy Choices

Our curriculum plans, are always available on the noticeboard at the pre-school. Please contact us for a full copy of our curriculum.
3 & 4 year old curriculum
Once your child has reached the age to receive funded nursery education, which is the term following their 3rd birthday, he/she is entitled to 5 free sessions per week, during school term times until commencement of compulsory education. This may be at one or more providers, subject to places and admission criteria. Each session lasts 2 ½ to 3 hours & activities & education will be provided in line with the QCA Foundation Stage curriculum.
If your child attends less than two sessions per week at Milford Pre-School, his/her key worker will record your child's attainments in their personal diaries.
All of the activities and experiences available within our curriculum are supported by well-trained qualified members of staff and may be delivered to either small or large groups of children, or on a one-to-one basis. The curriculum is carried out through a variety of play experiences.
Milford Pre-School supports all children in developing at their own pace. Our key worker system enables us to observe, evaluate and ensure a planned curriculum that meets the needs of each individual child. We realise the importance for children to have rich and stimulating experiences within the learning environment. We provide many opportunities for the children to explore, experiment, plan and make decisions for themselves
, therefore enabling them to learn, develop and make good progress.
By the end of the foundation stage some children may have exceeded the learning goals whilst others may be working towards some/all of the learning goals.
- The QCA Foundation Stage curriculum has six areas of learning:
- Personal, Social & Emotional Development.
- Communication, Language & Literacy.
- Mathematical Development.
- Knowledge and Understanding of the World.
- Physical Development.
- Creative Development.
Our curriculum plans, are always available on the noticeboard at the pre-school. Please contact us for a full copy of our curriculum.
